STORYWEAVer
Storyweaving is Monique’s contribution to the field of applied theatre. Diverse storytellers are supported in the development of their individual story while engaging in a process of storyweaving to create a collective narrative. The weaving uncovers the interbeing that lives in the liminal spaces between the pieces & offers fertile ground for co-creation, deep listening & the potential of a paradigm shift for both the creatives & audience.
These productions have been a salve, a much-needed creative medicine to tell stories that often can’t find a home. Stories of place/displacement, belonging/longing, connection/disconnection across diverse voices: Indigenous, settler, Black, people of colour, refugee and immigrant. Through the process it becomes clear that these stories are both newborn and hungry to be seen, as well as ones that were old and homeless…until now. Together, we step into this creative relationship and find our places of service to each other and to the whole. I am grateful for the incredible cast and team of creators who bring forward their voices, their gifts and embody them with such generosity. This generous trust to hand their precious threads and allow me to weave them into a whole, lands in my body and being as a mending loop & a deep sense of belonging. - Monique Salez
